Top PR Professional Mike Schaffer joins Hager Sharp as Digital Strategy Director

Hager Sharp announced today the hiring of nationally-recognized social media professional Mike Schaffer as director of digital strategy. He will work across all the firm’s account teams to provide expertise in digital strategy, social media and online programs. Hager Sharp specializes in “communications that make a difference” in health, safety and education—where fully integrated social marketing and public awareness campaigns are critical.

“We’re excited to add one of the top names in social media and digital communications to our team,” said Garry Curtis, president and CEO. “Mike’s leadership of our digital strategy practice area will be fully integrated into the great work we do for all our clients.”

Schaffer has been named one of the top 30 PR pros to follow on Twitter and the #21 most influential publicist on Twitter. His professional blog, TheBuzzByMikeSchaffer.com, was named one of the top 33 PR sites in both 2011 and 2012.

He also brings a decade of integrated communications, media, marketing, events and advertising experience to the company, having supported a wide spectrum of clients across the government, education, nonprofit, sports, entertainment and retail industries. Over his career he has helped a diverse set of clients, from the Army National Guard to PBS Kids to World Wrestling Entertainment—and even the Washington Nationals.

”As part of an integrated communications program, social media can build communities, connect organizations to their audiences, disseminate critical information instantly and make long distances irrelevant,” said Schaffer. “We will maximize the capabilities of social media to help our clients continue to make a difference in the world.”

Schaffer is a regular speaker at national conferences and guest lecturer at colleges and universities. He serves as a leader for Help A PR Pro Out (#HAPPO), a national online community for public relations professional mentorship and career growth. He has also taught at American University as an adjunct professor of social media in the Master’s of Public Communication program.

Most recently, Schaffer worked at iostudio as director of social media and content market director. At iostudio he helped open the Washington, D.C., office of the Nashville-based advertising agency while building social media, public relations and content marketing practices across both locations, from business development to hands-on execution.
