Hager Sharp Introduces Georgetown Center for Education and the Workforce and its New Jobs Forecast

Help Wanted: Projecting Jobs and Education Requirements from Now Through 2018 report cover

Hager Sharp has worked with the Center for the last few months in preparation for today’s introduction of its first major report, Help Wanted: Projecting Jobs and Education Requirements from Now Through 2018.  The Report projects that by 2018, 63 percent of all jobs in the US will require at least some postsecondary education. Employers will need 22 million new workers with postsecondary degrees—and the report also shows that we will fall short by 3 million workers without a dramatic change in course.

As a result of Hager Sharp’s efforts, the Report and the Center’s team were featured in major media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, and key education policy outlets including Inside Higher Ed and the Chronicle of Higher Education while the accompanying state data reports were featured in local media outlets ranging from the Hartford Courant to Philadelphia Inquirer with significant pick up from public radio stations across the US.   We also created the Center’s first social media strategy including Facebook and Twitter,  including live tweeting from the launch event at the National Press Club. Hager Sharp was able to work closely with representatives from The Gates and Lumina Foundations to maximize the reach of the Center’s social media efforts.

For this effort, the Hager Sharp team brought together experts from our education and health practices under the direction of Debra Silimeo, Senior Vice President at Hager Sharp whose previous work experience at both the Commerce Department and the Small Business Administration brought a strong business focus to our outreach efforts.  “ This report really creates a roadmap for what it will take to make us truly competitive in a global marketplace”, said Silimeo.
