Hager Sharp Supports Release of The Nation's Report Card Mathematics 2009 Trial Urban District Assessment

December 8, 2009 - The Nation’s Report Card shows students in large cities make gains in 4th and 8th grade math.

The highly-anticipated results from Trial Urban District Assessment of the National Assessment of Educational Progress in math were released on December 8, culminating months of work by the education team at Hager Sharp. The report presented results on the math performance of 4th and 8th graders in 18 urban districts across the country. The results fueled a national conversation about urban education reform, garnering coverage from CNN, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Detroit Free Press.

Hager Sharp supported the National Center for Education Statistics in development and design of the report, ensuring that policymakers, urban education leaders, teachers, and parents would understand what students know and can do in math. We worked closely with the Associate Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner to create materials and products that would present the findings clearly and accurately, including a multimedia presentation, which was used to explain the statistical report to media and general audiences. Before the release, the Hager Sharp team counseled each district to help them identify the best way to present their results.

Hager Sharp is involved in every level of the NAEP assessment. From creating outreach materials to encouraging student participation in the assessment, to spearheading the design and development of The Nation’s Report Card, Hager Sharp is the communications firm that crafts the NAEP brand as the gold standard of assessments.
