Hager Sharp to Partner with PlowShare Group on New HHS Heart Attack Campaign

October 16, 2009 - “We are pleased to again be joining forces with our friends at the PlowShare Group..."

“We are pleased to again be joining forces with our friends at the PlowShare Group and are looking forward to expanding our work with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health to alert millions of women across America about the signs and symptoms of heart attack, and the urgent need to call 9-1-1 should symptoms surface,” said Garry R. Curtis, President and CEO of Hager Sharp.

Hager Sharp has a rich history with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health, serving as its lead communications agency for initiatives such as National Women’s Health Week, BodyWorks, and, most recently, Best Bones Forever! Other clients of the 40-person firm include the National Diabetes Education Program, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Fire Administration, and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

An estimated 1.2 million Americans will have heart attacks this year. An estimated 515,000 of them will be women, according to the American Heart Association. In addition studies also suggest that heart attack awareness is lower and death rates are higher among African-American women, an area of great concern that this campaign will be designed to address.

The Office on Women’s Health (OWH) was established in 1991. OWH coordinates the efforts of all the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ agencies and offices involved in women’s health. The office works to improve the health and well-being of women and girls in the United States through its programs, by educating health professionals and motivating behavior change in consumers through the dissemination of health information.
